Vet Shortage and Impossible to Find TNR
There is an acute shortage of vets in California, and nationwide, detailed in
this study done by UC Davis
.
As such most Bay Area shelters have had to severely limit or even suspend their TNR programs.
At the same time private vet costs have risen sharply.
To help, the state recently approved
expanded vet telehealth services
, and along with other government and private agencies are working towards alleviating the situation through
assistance
and
other programs
.

Indoor or Outdoor?
Can cats be happy indoors? Would a cat be happier outside? The answer to both is probably yes. However there are many strong opinions for both sides of this debate. One in-between solution is a fenced-in yard or other outside enclosure.
Cats with white ear tips and/or noses should be kept out of the sun. Just like light-skinned humans, they are more susceptible to skin cancer. There is even a pet sun block on the market.
